For safety reasons, we have a minimum age of 14 for road rides.
For mountain bike rides, our requirements are based on ability, not minimum age. We believe you are the best judge of your child’s balance, fitness and maturity. If you have an adventurous 7 to 16-year-old, we recommend Mana Dirt. We have high quality kid’s 20” and 24” mountain bikes, small adult sizes, and youth helmets available.
Call or email to ensure availability of kids’ bike trailers and rear mounted child bike seats.
If your ride is based in Kona, we’ll meet at the specified start location for the ride. Usually this is the Kailua-Kona pier, the start/finish of the Kona IRONMAN. We also offer pickup if you’re staying within 5 miles of downtown Kona.
We do offer pickup for groups of 5 or more.
You’re not alone! The Holoholokai Petroglyph Mountain Bike ride is suitable for all levels.
Our Anna Ranch and Mana Dirt Road are very popular E-Mountain Bike rides. Hop on a Giant Full Suspension Trance E (electric assist mountain bike) and fly up the climbs!
The Waipio Valley Lookout Ride is mostly rolling downhill (with a climb near the end), then you’re shuttled back up the hill to Waimea. For added confidence, choose one of our road E-Bikes for an extra assist on the climbs. All our road rides are fully sagged, so if you would like to try the Hawaiian Vanilla Factory Road Ride, you are welcome to ride in our van during the climb.
All our tours include a high-end rental bike chosen to complement your route.
Because we set up bikes ahead of time with your measurements, it’s not possible to pick your bike the day of the ride. We may consult with you prior to your ride day to decide which model would work better for you (for example, a traditional versus an E-Mountain Bike).
We encourage you to bring your own shoes and pedals, and are happy to install your pedals. Because of time limitations, we don’t install cleats on shoes during a typical day trip. If you are interested in a custom training camp that includes bike fitting services, please email us at aloha@bigislandbiketours.com.
You are welcome to bring your own helmet, but to save suitcase space most riders choose to use our Giant Rev Comp helmets (included).
The Waipio Valley Lookout Road Ride meets at our headquarters at Anna Ranch, 65-1480 Kawaihae Rd. in Waimea, HI. Park in the middle lot, you’ll see our headquarters building with a small Big Island Bike Tours sign.
The Kona Coffee Country Road Ride (Holualoa) meets at the Kailua-Kona pier, the start/finish of the Kona IRONMAN.
If the ride begins and ends in a different location, your supportvehicle will shuttle you back to the start.
Friendly, professional, CPR-certified guide, high end full suspension mountain bike or full suspension E-Mountain Bike (electric assist mountain bike), helmet, GPS handlebar unit, map, pump and tube, complimentary Big Island Bike Tours water bottle, Skratch hydration drink, trailside snack, and rain gear (if needed).
